Job Summary:

Entry-level position responsible for performing a variety of accounting duties in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Early primary responsibilities include all aspects of utility billing and capital credit maintenance. 

Within the framework of board policies, budgets, and legal requirements, and as delegated by the CFO, the candidate will assume responsibility for the following key activities, which are not intended to be all-inclusive, and additional duties may be assigned:

  • Handle billing processes and respond to inquiries related to member bills.
  • Serve as the initial contact for coordinating consumer inquiries.
  • Initiate, process, review, research, update, and maintain payments and records for members and other consumers.
  • Process annual capital credit allocation and annual refund. Manage estate retirements and reconcile capital credit balances.
  • Prepare bank deposits.
  • Review, analyze and reconcile general ledger account balances within subsidiaries.
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end files for the external audit to ensure that all accounts are materially correct.

Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with a high degree of mathematical accuracy.  Must be able to perform under pressure to meet specific deadlines and must be flexible and adaptable to change.  Displays high standards of ethical conduct.  Must possess strong organizational skills and require minimal supervision. Maintains sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality. 

Strong listening skills, clear and effective communication, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines are essential.

Must possess the ability to organize, plan, and manage workload with little or no supervision.  Must be able to take on projects and see them through with little outside direction or help.

Intermediate to advanced computer knowledge required.  Must be fluent in MS Word and Excel. Must become proficient in NISC IVue system.

Qualifications:

A BS or BA in Accounting or Finance and/or employment experience in either field is desired. A degree in Business or Economics will be considered. All relevant employment experience with general accounting and office responsibilities including, but not limited to: Accounts Payable, Work Orders, Accounts Receivable, Billing, Asset Management, Fleet Management, Material Inventory, and project management will be considered in lieu of a degree.

In and out of state travel will be required for training.
